Evaluating the
Akin Library Program
The following three acceptable standards were examined by their parts to identify specific weaknesses in the Akin Library program. With some effort, these particular weak strands can be reworked within the program to move the program towards a higher ranking for each principle. The additional emphasis in these areas could potentially move the principles from acceptable to being recognized or exemplary in ratings.
Standard III
Principle 2: Acceptable

The library program was marked below standard because they do not clearly mark copyright warning notices on copy enabled equipment located throughout the entire campus. There are no established procedures for attaching copyright warning notices to any new copy-enabled equipment added to the campus

The library program only has very basic training for students and staff on the principles of copyright, plagiarism, intellectual freedom, confidentiality, the rights of users and other intellectual property concerns.

The library program lacks consistent collaboration with teachers, administrators or others to develop and publicize policies and procedures that advocate compliance with copyright, campus and district Internet polices and other relevant laws.
Standard V
Principle 1: Acceptable

The library does not develop, maintain, and promote library programs through discussions with community partners that offer students, faculty and staff, families and the community opportunities to participate in school activities and their children’s education.

The library program does not partner with members of the community to sponsor events to promote the school library program and student success.
Standard VI
Principle 6: Acceptable
The library program does not explicitly teach acceptable use, copyright, intellectual freedom, privacy, patron rights, and plagiarism policies to students and staff.
