Texas, Our Texas!

As a native Texan I never miss a chance to talk about our state. I love our state symbols! March 2 is Texas Independence day and I thought this week would be a great time to let students discover what some of our state symbols are. Who knew Texas has a state dinosaur? Students searched for Texas on Pebble Go Next and then used the site to match up the item and description ex/state bird=mockingbird. The lower grades had a read aloud "Armadillo Rodeo" by Jan Brett and practiced their state symbols with a Google slides game. Fourth grade social studies is all about Texas history so the upper grade students had a leg up on the matching game we played for Texas symbols.
